Introduction: Society is an association of all kinds of people with
a common interest, aim and principle. Students are not isolated from the
society. They live in the society and enjoy some rights and privileges. As they
are social beings, they are bound to render social services. There are many
kinds of social services and the students have many things to do for the betterment
of the society.
Original duties of a student: The first duty of a
student is to study hard. The second duty of a student is to help the parents
in different ways. The third duty of a student is to render service for the
society.
Services to illiterate people: Most of the people of our
country are illiterate. They live in the village. During holidays the students
should go to villages and make people educated. They can set up night school
for this purpose.
Services to affected people: Bangladesh
is a land of natural calamities. Every year various kinds of natural calamities
visit our country. These natural calamities make people homeless and foodless.
Students can help the suffering people during natural calamities.
Services to common people: Students can help the
common people in different ways. They can help the poor farmers with giving
good advice. They can teach the poor and illiterate farmers about modern method
of cultivation.
Service in health programmes: Most of the people of our country
are careless regarding physical and mental health. They have lack of knowledge
about food and nutrition. Students should teach the ordinary people how to keep
good health. They should teach the common people how to keep the environment
free from pollution.
Service in family planning: Bangladesh is a small country but
it has a huge population. Our population is increasing very rapidly. It is a
burning question of Bangladesh.
So our female students can teach the women folk how to birth control. They can
also teach them how to bring up their children and take care of their
health.
Service in political sector: Students can play a vital
role in politics. Our students took part in liberation war and made the country
free from enemies. Now the students can make people conscious about their
rights and responsibilities.
Conclusion: Finally we can say that students have many things to
do for the development of the society. They are owe to society. Without social
development no nation can prosper. To save the country every student should
come forward with helping hand. But they should not forget that their first and
foremost duty is to study hard.
